Repeat Prescriptions
If your long-term medication has been approved on repeat prescription there are a variety of ways to re-order:
NHS App – The easiest way to request repeat prescriptions, easily register on the app with no need to bring ID into the surgery. See www.nhs.uk – The NHS App for more information.
Online – follow the link after registering with us at the practice
By hand – drop your repeat slip in at reception with the required items clearly marked
Post – send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you want us to post it back to you
Please allow 48 hours for us to process the prescription
Nominated Pharmacy
Your repeat prescriptions will be sent securely to the pharmacy of your choice. You can choose a pharmacy that suits you – think about opening times, ease of getting to the pharmacy and whether delivery will be required.
If you are on a repeat prescription it is best if you nominate a pharmacy to which we should send the prescriptions. If you wish to change or nominate a pharmacy, please send a message through our ‘Contact the practice’ form or call reception on 0161 4382821.
Medication Reviews
Patients on repeat medication will usually be asked to see a doctor or practice nurse at least once a year to review your regular medications. Notification should appear on your repeat slip.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account. Prescriptions are ready to collect after 16:00
Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
NHS charges
Charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
